FAQs

The Regency style, spanning the early 19th century, is characterised by classical symmetry, heavily influenced by Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, often incorporating opulent ornamentation like repousse work and cast borders.

Authentic period coasters typically combine sterling silver or silver plate mounts with turned hardwood bases, such as mahogany, rosewood, or oak, often featuring a central silver button or boss.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks for assay office marks, makers marks, and date letters, alongside observing the hand-turned grain of the wooden base and the cast, chased detailing of the silver rims.

These pieces can be utilised on a dining table, sideboard, or coffee table to hold glassware or small decorative objects, adding a layer of historical contrast and polished metallic texture to modern spaces.

Preservation involves regular, gentle cleaning of the silver with a non-abrasive polish to prevent tarnish, whilst keeping the wooden bases conditioned with appropriate oils and avoiding excessive moisture exposure.
