We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Victorian oil lamps typically feature robust metal bases, often in brass or cast iron, paired with decorative glass reservoirs and chimney glass, reflecting the industrial and decorative advancements of the 19th century.

These lamps were predominantly constructed using polished brass, bronze, or copper for the structural column and base, combined with blown or pressed glass for the fuel reservoir and clear glass for the protective chimney.

Authentic period lamps often display maker marks on the brass burner mechanisms, heavy gauge metal casting, hand-finished components, and characteristic wear consistent with age and previous use.

Positioning the lamp on a sideboard, console, or mantelpiece introduces metallic warmth and historical contrast, serving as a sculptural focal point in a modern room.

Clean the metal components gently with a dry microfiber cloth to preserve the natural patina, and wash glass elements carefully with mild soapy water while avoiding harsh chemical polishes on aged brass.
