FAQs

Equestrian relief art gained popularity during the mid-20th century, often celebrating traditional rural sports, horse racing, and craftsmanship through metalwork or plaster cast panels mounted within wooden frames.

These pieces typically combine a metallic relief figureoften made of cast metal, brass, or silver-plated alloysset against a contrasting backing board and enclosed within a solid wood or moulded frame.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate joinery in the wooden frame, natural material ageing such as mild patination or oxidisation on the metal, and hand-finished details characteristic of mid-20th-century workshops.

This piece works well as a focal point on a gallery wall or above a mantelpiece, complementing traditional, rustic, or eclectic spaces by adding texture, depth, and a nod to classic sporting heritage.

Maintain the piece by dusting the wooden frame with a dry microfibre cloth and gently cleaning the metal relief with a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemical solvents to preserve the original finish.
