Art Deco jewellery, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric symmetry, clean lines, stylised motifs, and a strong contrast of materials, frequently pairing platinum or white gold with vibrant gemstones like emeralds, rubies, and sapphires.

Jewellery from this era often combined yellow gold bands with platinum top settings to securely hold diamonds and coloured stones. Hand-pierced gallery work, millegrain edging, and channel-set accent stones were standard craftsmanship techniques of the period.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-specific cut stones, such as old European cut diamonds or cushion-cut emeralds, alongside hand-carved details, makers marks, and natural metal oxidisation consistent with age rather than modern casting flaws.

An antique emerald ring makes a striking standalone statement piece or can be paired with simple, modern wedding bands to highlight its historical geometry and vibrant green hue without visual competition.

Emeralds are a softer gemstone and often treated; they should never be cleaned in ultrasonic cleaners or exposed to harsh chemicals. Instead, clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and store separately to avoid scratching.
