Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Hanoverian pattern emerged in England during the late 17th century, characterised by its distinctive ridge down the stem and a curved terminal. It became a staple design throughout the 18th century and continued to be reproduced well into the 20th century.

These pieces are crafted from sterling silver, typically containing 92.5% silver by weight, conforming to British hallmarking standards. Traditional construction involved hand-hammering or casting the bowl and handle separately before joining them securely.

Authenticity is verified through official hallmarks stamped into the metal, which indicate the assay office, date letter, makers mark, and the lion passant denoting sterling standard. Examination of wear patterns, weight, and construction seams also aids verification.

Antique silver tableware adds historic character and metallic contrast when mixed with contemporary white porcelain or minimalist table settings. Displaying pieces on sideboards or integrating them into formal dining brings functional heritage into contemporary spaces.

Silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialised non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to remove tarnish without harming the metal. Storing pieces in tarnish-resistant cloth bags within a stable, dry environment prevents oxidation.
