Art Deco jewellery, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric symmetry, clean lines, stylised motifs, and a strong contrast achieved by pairing diamonds with vibrant coloured gemstones like emeralds, rubies, and sapphires.

During the 1930s, platinum became the metal of choice for fine jewellery due to its strength and ability to hold delicate settings, often complemented by white gold. Gemstones were typically cut in traditional old European cuts for diamonds and emerald cuts for coloured stones.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct gemstone cuts, hand-crafted platinum or white gold settings with precise millegrain detailing, and signs of age-appropriate wear on the metal and facets. Hallmark stamps and construction techniques consistent with the 1930s also verify authenticity.

An antique Art Deco ring pairs well with minimalist modern bands to highlight its geometric design, or it can be stacked with other vintage platinum pieces for a cohesive period aesthetic.

Emeralds are softer than diamonds and contain natural inclusions, so they should never be cleaned in ultrasonic machines or exposed to harsh chemicals. Gentle cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft brush, followed by professional inspection of the settings, ensures longevity.
