Technical Description
An early 18th century Balustroid wine glass. It has a bell bowl with a solid section at the base. Supported by a merese, cushion knop and basal knop. Domed and folded foot.

Condition
Excellent, no chips, cracks or restoration.

Historical Context
The Malt tax riots begin in Hamilton Scotland in June 1725 after the price of beer and scotch whisky increases. Earlier in the year, the British government extended the taxes in England on malted grain to brewers and distilleries in Scotland. The rioting then spreads throughout Scot counties.
