This pair of French Empire wall lights from 1910 is made from cast brass with an aged brass colour and patina. Each light features a backplate formed of crossed arrows centred by a lion mask with a ring handle, along with twin curving candle arms and standard screw-fitting bulb holders. The hardware shows visible wear including slight oxidisation and darkening of the metal surface across the brass components. The measurements are 29 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. These wall sconces suit placement in a dining room, hallway, or living room, where they can be mounted directly on the wall above a sideboard or console table to provide atmospheric lighting.

FAQs

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid abrasive chemical polishes that remove protective patination; clear wax can be lightly applied to preserve the existing aged brass surface.

They can be mounted flanking a fireplace mantel, positioned above a dining room sideboard, or installed along a hallway to introduce warm metallic accents and classic architectural detail.

Authentic examples display heavy cast metal construction, hand-chased surface details, natural surface oxidisation or patination, and original cast brass mounting brackets on the reverse.

These lighting fixtures were predominantly crafted from solid cast brass or bronze, often featuring chased detailing, fire-gilded or patinated finishes, and internal wiring additions in later eras.

French Empire and Neoclassical wall lights typically feature symmetrical classical motifs such as crossed arrows, lion masks, torches, and laurel wreaths executed in cast brass or gilded bronze.
