Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opaline glass was popularised in 19th-century Europe, known for its translucent, milky appearance created to imitate porcelain. During the Victorian era, opaline glass was frequently combined with brass mountings to construct tall, elegant table lamps and oil lamp bases.

These lighting fixtures traditionally feature hand-blown opaline or milk glass shafts combined with cast or turned brass sockets, collars, and weighted plinth bases.

Authentic pieces often exhibit slight hand-blown glass variations, hand-turned brass components with historical thread pitch, and natural patination or surface wear consistent with age.

Position the lamp on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or desk to contrast the white opaline shaft against neutral or deep-toned backdrops.

Dust the glass and metal surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that could strip original metal lacquers or patination.
