FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement, emerging in the late 19th century, prioritised traditional craftsmanship, simple forms, and visible handiwork over mass-produced industrial items, often combining natural woods with durable metals like brass.

Authentic pieces from this era typically utilized solid native hardwoods such as oak, combined with heavy cast or sheet brass components, joined using traditional fixings rather than modern adhesives.

Authentication involves examining tool marks, the natural patination of the wood and metal, hand-turned construction details, and the absence of modern machine-screw threads.

They can be placed on mantelpieces, sideboards, or dining tables to introduce textural warmth and historical contrast to minimalist or modern schemes.

Maintain pieces by keeping them away from direct heat sources and moisture, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to wood, and gently cleaning brass with a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
