Each of the three stoppers is in perfect condition, no replacements, chips or missing edges.

Edward Betjemann succeeded his father (George) in the family silver business, producing exceptional boxes with silver topped bottles and containers. Betjemann patented this design in 1829 and many examples were subsequently produced, mostly for the full 1 litre sized decanters. This unusual smaller example, was most likely for liqueurs and measures just 5.5 inches (14cm) tall. Interestingly Edward was also the father of Sir John Betjeman the famous Poet Laureat. The second 'n', at the end of the family name, was dropped during the 1st World War to avoid any confusion with German or Dutch ancestors.
