Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique entree dish is a covered serving container historically used in formal dining during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to keep food warm at table. Typically produced in pairs or sets of four, these vessels frequently featured removable handles that allowed the lid to double as a secondary serving dish.

During the Regency and Victorian eras, entree dishes were predominantly constructed from sterling silver or Old Sheffield plate, and later electroplated nickel silver. These pieces featured heavy cast borders, chased ornamentation, and detachable handles formed through lost-wax casting.

Authentic Regency silver entree dishes feature period hallmarking, makers marks, and characteristic decorative elements such as gadrooned or foliate borders. The weight of the metal, evidence of hand-raising or hand-chasing, and original fitting mechanisms on detachable handles also indicate authenticity.

In contemporary dining spaces, antique entree dishes make striking centrepieces on a sideboard, buffet table, or dining surface. They can also serve as decorative storage containers on a hallway console for small items, or displayed empty to highlight their reflective metallic surface.

Clean silver dishes gently using a soft cloth and a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish to prevent scratching and preserve surface details. Avoid harsh chemicals or automatic dishwashers, and store the items in anti-tarnish cloth bags when not in use.
