Description

A very attractive Art Deco Czech crystal decanter of large proportions. The Czech glassworks is most famous for its pieces made in the period of 1930's when striking and inventive geometric designs became a departure from the classic two toned crystal goblets and decanters with floral carved designs. This decanter boasts a very striking black and white geometric design which screams Art Deco. There is an imperfection to the base of the decanter which appears to be within the glass itself and thus is likely a flaw in manufacture. There are some light signs of wear commensurate with age, no damage.

FAQs

Art Deco glassware from the 1920s and 1930s is characterised by strong geometric shapes, stylised motifs, and contrasting colour palettes, heavily influenced by industrial modernity and Cubism.

These pieces typically employ high-clarity lead crystal or potash glass, often decorated with hand-cut facets, acid etching, and fired enamel detailing applied by skilled artisans.

Authentic items often feature period-specific weight, hand-finished ground glass stoppers, characteristic optical distortion in the glass, and specific modernist geometric motifs typical of Bohemian workshops.

Displaying the piece on a mirrored tray, sideboard, or bar cart highlights its architectural lines and reflective qualities, creating a focal point that bridges vintage character with modern aesthetics.

Wash the item gently by hand in warm water using mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding soaking or harsh scrubbing to protect delicate enamel work and vintage glass surfaces.
