Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian tambour night table is an 18th-century piece of bedside furniture featuring a slatted wooden door, known as a tambour, that slides along grooves to conceal an interior compartment. Originally designed as night commodes during the reign of George III, these tables frequently featured tray tops with handles for easy movement.

Primary timbers were typically dense mahogany imported from the West Indies, selected for its durability and grain pattern. The tambour door consists of narrow wooden slats affixed to a flexible cloth backing, allowing smooth movement along hidden tracks within the frame.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, pierced handholds, and structural wear patterns consistent with period age. Look for original canvas backing behind the tambour mechanism and natural patina on the mahogany surfaces.

These functional tables serve effectively as contemporary bedside stands, occasional side tables beside an armchair, or accent storage in a hallway. The elevated gallery top creates a secure surface for lamps, books, or decorative items.

Maintain the surface finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or drying out the tambour canvas backing.
