Technical Description

A superb 18th-century air twist wine goblet. It has a large bell bowl above a multi spiral air twist stem with a swelling knop on the shoulders. Conical foot.

A very well-proportioned glass.

Date & Origin

England, c1750. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, Age-related wear as shown. No chips cracks or restoration

Dimensions

Height: 20.3cm Bowl Diameter: 8.5cm Foot diameter: 8.5cm.

Comments

In 1748 David Hume publishes An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding and in 1754 Joseph Black discovers "fixed air" (carbon dioxide)
