Technical Description

Engraved 18th century Jacobite sympathy plain stem wine glass. An ovoid bowl engraved with a closed bud and a floral sprig rests upon a plain stem. The foot is conical and folded with a rough pontil.

Date & Origin

England, c1740. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips cracks or restoration

Dimensions

Height: 13.2cm Rim diameter: 5cm, Foot diameter: 7.1cm.

Historical Relevance

Hand-blown around the time the laws against witchcraft were repealed and replaced with The Witchcraft Act of 1735. This act made the witch more akin to a con artist in the eyes of the law.
