Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French metal standard lamp, often evolved from traditional torcheres or pricket candle stands, is a tall floor-standing light fixture crafted from wrought or cast iron. Historically used in nineteenth-century French interiors, these pieces feature ornate scrollwork and architectural detailing designed for ambient illumination.

Traditional standard lamps of this style are predominantly forged from wrought iron or cast iron, frequently finished with paint or gilding. The construction incorporates hand-formed scrollwork, cast acanthus leaf elements, and heavy tripod or quadrupod bases to ensure stability.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-hammered ironwork, visible rivets, threaded joinery, and natural surface oxidisation or patina beneath secondary paint layers. Original candle pricket conversions or historic cast-iron weight balance also indicate genuine age.

Positioning the lamp in an empty corner or alongside seating adds vertical scale and physical texture to a room. Combining the distressed metal finish with neutral upholstery or linen lamp shades creates a contrast between historic metalwork and contemporary decor.

Dust the detailed metalwork regularly using a dry soft brush or microfibre cloth to prevent paint flaking. Avoid using water or chemical detergents on historic paint finishes, and ensure all electrical components are tested by a qualified electrician.
