French Silver Plated Champagne Bottle Recipe Cocktail Shaker C.1930

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Puckerings
Description

A rare French Recipe cocktail shaker made in silver plate in the form of a champagne bottle. What makes this one so special and collectable is the engraved mount to the front engraved with seven cocktail recipes with instructions how to serve each. The seven cocktails are: Manhattan, Bronx, Side Car, Alexandra, Dubonnet, Dry Martini and Rose.

Just back from our silversmith's workshop, where it has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring it to it's former glory, dating to the Art Deco era, dating to c.1930/1940.

The underside is fully marked by the maker, looking like four letters surrounding the Arch De Triomphe, I haven't been able to identify the silversmith.

Superb condition measuring 2 3/4" in diameter and standing 10 7/8" tall.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Art Deco era, mixology gained immense popularity, leading silversmiths to design novelty cocktail shakers in creative shapes such as champagne bottles, lighthouses, and penguins. French manufacturers frequently incorporated cocktail recipes directly onto the metal body for both practical use and decorative appeal.

Art Deco cocktail shakers were predominantly crafted from brass or nickel base metal electroplated with silver. Higher-end examples featured heavy silver plating, internal strainer mechanisms, and precision-fitted caps to prevent leaking during use.

Authentic period pieces typically feature makers marks or silver-plate hallmarks stamped on the underside of the base. Look for period-appropriate typography, naturally occurring tarnish or rubbing along high points, and precise joining seams consistent with early 20th-century metalworking.

Place the shaker on a silver tray alongside vintage glassware on a dining room sideboard or a dedicated bar cart. The polished silver finish creates a striking focal point against dark timber surfaces or contemporary mirrored trays.

Clean silver-plated items using a non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft microfibre cloth to remove oxidisation without wearing away the silver layer. Hand wash gently in warm water with mild dish soap and dry immediately to prevent water spots.
