Irish Belfast Union Engraved Glass Decanter 1802-1810

Description

Technical Description

A fantastic Georgian Irish glass decanter. It has its original waffle disk stopper with three milled neck rings below. Engraved with Scottish Thistles, English Roses, Irish Shamrocks, and the initials RW with flute moulding to the base. Snapped pontils.

Provenance, Jim Lennon collection, attributed to Belfast.

Date & Origin

Edwards of Belfast, Ireland, 1802-1810. Period of George III.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips cracks or restoration, clean and clear.

Dimensions

Height: 26cm Diameter: 11cm.

Historical Relevance

Hand-blown around the time the Apothecaries (1815) Act prohibited unlicensed medical practitioners.
