Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century French silvered bronze candlesticks typically feature classical motifs drawn from Greco-Roman design, produced using precision sand casting or lost-wax techniques. Prominent foundries such as Ferdinand Barbedienne popularised electroplated silver finishes over detailed cast bronze foundations during the Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III eras.

These pieces were cast in solid bronze using moulds before being finished with silver electroplating to create a uniform metallic surface. Individual elements, including the urn sconce, tapered column shaft, and stepped base, were frequently cast separately and assembled over a central threaded iron rod.

Authentic examples often bear cast or stamped foundry signatures such as F. Barbedienne along the lower edge or underside of the base. Additional indicators include sharp hand-chased relief details, substantial weight due to the solid bronze core, and precise joining of component parts.

Arranging a pair symmetrically on a modern marble sideboard or a simple wooden mantelpiece creates a clean focal point. Combining them with contemporary neutral taper candles and minimal linen accents helps bridge historical craftsmanship with modern interior aesthetics.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to clear surface dust. Avoid abrasive metal polishes or aggressive chemical cleansers that can remove the thin silver layer, opting instead for specialized non-abrasive silver cloths to manage light oxidisation.
