Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An etui or necessaire is a small decorative pocket case designed during the eighteenth century to hold personal grooming tools, perfume bottles, or sewing implements. These compact cases were crafted for transportability and held items securely in custom-fitted compartments.

Georgian etuis were made using luxury materials such as natural tortoiseshell, silver, gold, shagreen, mother-of-pearl, and enamel. The interiors were often lined with silk, velvet, or leather to protect delicate glass bottles and metallic implements.

Authentic Georgian pieces feature hand-carved tortoiseshell, silver or gold mounts with period-appropriate hallmarks or engraving, and hand-cut glass bottles. Natural tortoiseshell displays subtle irregular mottled patterns and organic warmth under inspection.

A small antique etui is ideal for styling within a glass display cloche, alongside fine leather-bound books on a bookshelf, or placed on a vanity tray to add historical detail to a dressing table.

Keep tortoiseshell items away from direct sunlight, central heating, and excess humidity to prevent warping or cracking. Clean glass components gently with dry cotton, and avoid applying water or liquid solvents directly to the shell or interior fabric.
