Thomas Web Lion Mask Decanter and Two Matching Whisky Glasses C1870

Description

Technical Description

A rare Thomas Webb Shaft and Globe Decanter. It has its original hollow ball stopper engraved with a band of small ovals which are mirrored on the neck and body of the decanter. Four scroll feet with Webb trademark lion masks above. Comes with a pair of matching tumblers probably used for spirits such as Whisky. Polished pontils.

Date & Origin

England, c1870. Period of Victoria.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips cracks or restoration. Clean and clear.

Decanter Height: 29.5cm Diameter: 12cm.

Glasses Height: 10.7cm Diameter 6cm

Historical Relevance

Hand-blown around the time the first section of the London Underground Railway opened to the public, running from Paddington to Farringdon Street.
