Technical Description
 
A pair of 18th century engraved wine glasses. They have ogee bowls engraved with jaybirds and sprigs with a cartoch. Plain stems above conical feet with snapped pontils.

England, c1750. Period of George II.
 
Condition
 
Excellent, age-related wear as shown.

Height: 12.5cm Rim diameter: 4.7cm, Foot diameter: 6.6cm.
 
Historical Relevance
 
Hand-blown around the time the laws against witchcraft were repealed and replaced with The Witchcraft Act of 1735. This act made the witch more akin to a con artist in the eyes of the law.
