Description

This is an Indian oval dish, dating from the early 20th century. It is white metal, likely to be silver but bears no hallmarks, as is usually the case with these items. It has chased detail depicting a naive lion hunting a deer within a stylised landscape. It has a leaf form border.

The condition is generally good with some wear commensurate to its age.

The total weight is 45g (1.47 oz t)

Anglo-Indian silver was produced by craftspeople in India primarily during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to satisfy Western demand. These items combined traditional regional metalworking techniques with European vessel forms, frequently depicting local flora, fauna, and narrative scenes.
