Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Chippendale period breakfront bookcase is characterised by a central section that steps forward from the side wings, multi-pane astragal glazed upper doors, and solid mahogany construction featuring carved classical mouldings and fretwork motifs popular in 18th-century Britain.

Craftsmen primarily utilized dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany for the exterior, handmade cylinder glass panes for the doors, cast brass hardware, and secondary woods like pine or oak for interior drawer linings and backboards.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, irregular hand-blown glass panes with subtle distortions, oak or pine back panels, original cast brass handles, and authentic wear to interior shelf tracks.

A large breakfront bookcase serves as a structural anchor in a modern dining room, home office, or living area, offering grand storage for books, ceramics, or curation of decorative objects against neutral walls.

Maintain stable humidity levels, keep the piece away from direct heat and sunlight, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to protect the timbers patina.
