Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE EDWARDIAN ERA:
Rough sand casting on the backplate reverse: traditional foundry work from the early twentieth century.
Slotted brass assembly bolts: fasteners from before the introduction of cross-head screws.
Oxidised verdigris inside the hollow backplate: long-term natural exposure under old surfaces.
Neoclassical ram mask and acanthus casting: decorative mouldings typical of the Edwardian revival.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A matched set of four Edwardian wall lights provides a practical lighting solution for a traditional interior, combining bright polished brass metalwork with cream faux candle sleeves. Each fixture features a pair of curved scroll arms attached to a decorative backplate adorned with classical motifs, acanthus leaf details, and animal head ornamentation. Electrical wiring trails from the fixtures, which measure 26 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 25 cm deep, ready for installation. These matching light fittings work particularly well when mounted symmetrically on either side of a fireplace, flanking a mirror, or positioned along a hallway corridor to illuminate narrow wall spaces with warm ambient lighting.

FAQs

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or chemical polishes if the brass retains an original lacquer or natural patina, and ensure all electrical wiring is inspected by a qualified electrician before installation.

Twin-arm brass sconces are ideal for flanking a hallway mirror, framing artwork, or positioning on either side of a fireplace alcove. They provide ambient background illumination while adding classic architectural character to contemporary schemes.

Authentic period pieces exhibit heavy cast brass construction rather than lightweight stamped metal. Look for hand-finished casting seams, original threaded joinery, and natural surface patination around recesses and backplates.

These fixtures were predominantly crafted from solid cast brass or bronze, often polished or lacquered. The candle sleeves were historically made of faux-drip cardboard, beeswax, or opal glass to conceal electrical socket components.

Edwardian wall lights from the early twentieth century are characterised by light, graceful proportions and classical decorative motifs. Influenced by Georgian and Neoclassical revival styles, they often feature symmetrical twin arms, reeded detailing, and foliate backplates.
