This 19th-century French table lamp combines a cylindrical ceramic body with brass hardware and an etched glass globe shade. The cream and multicolour ceramic column displays a printed hunting scene with hounds and figures in a landscape, beneath a pierced brass gallery and a frosted glass shade. The brass components show signs of age with tarnish and wear on the metallic surfaces. Measuring 52 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm deep, the lamp has been professionally converted to electricity and operates with a brown twisted cord. Placed on a sideboard top in a living room, hallway, or dining room, it provides atmospheric illumination while serving as a decorative accent piece. The neutral cream background of the ceramic cylinder complements various interior colour schemes, while the detailed hunting motif adds a traditional visual element to domestic settings.

During the Belle Epoque era around 1900, French oil lamps served as both practical light sources and decorative centrepieces. Manufactured using kerosene or paraffin burners, these lamps combined traditional craftsmanship with ornate art styles prior to the widespread adoption of domestic electricity.

Lamps from this period were typically constructed using a combination of cast or stamped brass burners, decorated porcelain or ceramic reservoir bodies, and hand-etched or frosted glass shades designed to diffuse light.

Authentic period lamps frequently feature maker marks on the burner mechanism, such as French manufacturer stamps, alongside weighted bases, brass gallery fittings, and transfer-printed or hand-painted details on the ceramic column.

An antique lamp can be displayed on a hallway console table, sideboard, or desk to add historical contrast. Whether retained as a decorative object or converted for electrical use, it serves as an accent piece in modern interior schemes.

Clean the glass shade using mild soap and warm water, taking care not to scrub etched areas aggressively. Wipe down the ceramic body with a damp microfibre cloth and clean brass elements with a dry cloth to preserve the natural patina without stripping protective finishes.
