Antique Patinated Bronze & Ormolu Elephant Liqueur Set Tantalus 19th C

Description

This is an extremely fine Neo-classical French ornamental cast bronze, ormolu and glass liqueur set, circa 1840 in date.

This magnificent liqueur set is in the form of a finely patinated bronze sculpture of an elephant walking along and carrying an ormolu howdah with a large glass barrel on top and three fitted engraved glasses to each side.

The barrel is engraved and enamelled with floral decoration and has a brass tap to serve the whisky from. The sculpture is raised on an oval plinth base that has a decorative shaped canted edge.
