Technical Description
A mid Victorian Vaseline wrythen moulded Coaching glass.
With short turnaround times, it became increasingly difficult for the passengers to take advantage of the drinks and food on offer by the innkeepers. Thus, coaching glasses were carried on a tray to the travellers, brim down, and then filled and handed to those wishing refreshment. The ‘heel’ of the glass fits perfectly in the hand and there was no need for a foot.
This particular example is mid 19th century, and although we have had many clear glass examples over the years, I don’t recall having or seeing a Vaseline example.
