A very attractive Italian 17th century style walnut cassone ( marriage chest ).
Dating from the late 19th century in the 17th century style.

This very striking chest has a moulded edge lift-up top which opens to reveal a large storage area. This is over a three paneled front, standing on the most lovely large boldly carved lion-paw feet. With a gadrooned apron and turned baluster decoration to each corner. The brass escutcheon is particularly nice, which is typical baroque 17th century in style.

The chest is constructed from pine with a walnut veneer.
The height of the chest is perfect for use as a coffee table as it is quite low.
In excellent sturdy condition, expected signs of age and use.
