Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Italian Rococo Revival pod chandelier dates to 1910 and measures 75 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 75 cm deep. The construction combines a gilt brass frame with clear cut crystal and glass elements. The composition includes a crown at the top with hanging crystal swags, amber drop prisms, a central glass balustrade, six S-scroll arms holding crystal-beaded pod shades, button drop swags, and a faceted bottom ball pendant. Placement suits a dining room, hallway, or drawing room where overhead lighting is needed. The installation functions wired with an adjustable chain and ceiling rose for hanging from a ceiling.

FAQs

Pod chandeliers gained prominence in mid-to-late 19th-century Italy, drawing inspiration from Baroque and Rococo designs. Characterised by cage-like structures draped with strung crystal beads, these fixtures were crafted to maximize light refraction in grand residential interiors.

Traditional construction relies on cast brass or bronze frames, often hand-gilded or lacquered. The decorative elements consist of hand-strung glass or lead crystal octagons, prisms, and drops fastened with fine metal wire pins.

Authentic period examples feature cast metal components with natural oxidisation, hand-cut crystals with slight variations in symmetry, and manual wire pin assemblies rather than modern machine-formed clips.

An ornate gilt chandelier serves as a focal point when suspended above a modern dining table or in a contemporary entryway. The contrast between intricate classical scrollwork and clean modern lines creates a balanced aesthetic scheme.

Dust crystals regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and gently clean glass drops using a mild solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Ensure electrical components remain dry and consult a qualified electrician to inspect vintage wiring.
