England, c1880. Period of Victoria.

Condition

Age-related wear and some minor grazing as shown.

Height: 13.3cm Diameter: 13.2cm including the handle.

Technical Description

Engraved 19th century glass tankard. The tapered body is engraved with a large elaborate wreath comprised of hops and barley, containing the initials KM, the body also features an applied handle and applied cranberry trailing. A polished pontil completes the piece.

Historical Relevance

Hand-blown around the time the first rugby international was played in Edinburgh, resulting in a 1–0 win by Scotland over England on the 27th of March 1871.
