England, c1760. Period of George III.

Excellent, age-related wear as shown.

Height: 16.7cm Rim diameter: 5.5cm, Foot diameter: 7.5cm.

Technical Description

Engraved 18th century opaque twist ale glass. An elongated round funnel bowl rests upon a double series opaque twist stem. Engraved hops and barley in saltire decorate the bowl. The stem is comprised of a multi-ply spiral band outside a pair of spiral tapes. A conical foot with a rough pontil supports the piece.

Historical Relevance

Hand-blown around the time Edinburgh City Chambers was opened as the Royal Exchange, to the design of the Scottish Architect John Adam.
