A Fine Pair Of Georgian Cut Crystal Carafes

This fine pair of George III cut crystal mallet shaped carafes have an exceptionally wide mouth; they were not intended to have stoppers. The bases have a line of fluting with above that a central band engraved with stars and an etched shield shaped escutcheon engraved with the initials JDC (which are period with the carafes). The shoulders are cut with broad flat panels going into the neck, around which are three flat rings. Each carafe has a capacity of about 1.3 litres, just short of a magnum. In perfect condition with no chips or cracks, and with age appropriate wear to the base of each. English, circa 1810
