Large "Millefiori" Ink Bottle Dated 1848

Description

An interesting mid-19th century English "millefiori" INK BOTTLE of large size and in perfect condition. Both top and base are (internally) decorated with multi-coloured glass "rods" to produce a distinctive design often used in paperweights. This particular example is dated 1848 (see close-up image). 5.5ins (14cms) high overall.

***Millefiori (from a combination of two latin words "mille" and "fiori" (thousand flowers) is the term used for this type of ornamental glass that is decorated with different coloured rods, which are fused together inside transparent glass. Most usually seen in paperweights.
