An Extremely Rare Regency Cut Glass Decanter Coaster

An extremely rare example of Regency period cut glass, probably of Irish origin. This is a wine coaster for a decanter. Often mistaken for the similar shaped bases for a butter dish, this is a scarce and desirable item with a practical use. It is of circular form with a drop centre to hold a decanter. The wide turned over rim has hobnail cut design. To the centre the base has deep fan cutting. A wonderful example of Georgian decorative and usable glass. Dimensions below.

Condition :- Excellent with no serious chips or cracks. It has a few bumps around the base edge, commensurate with age and use.
Origin :- Irish.
Date :- c1820.
