Set of 3 Stunning Scottish Victorian Engraved Glasses

19th century
Description

Here we have a set of three stunning Scottish Victorian engraved glasses of the highest quality. They all bear various family adaptions of the name WILLIAM FRAIN engraved on them. William Frain was a glass maker in Dundee who also had a retail shop. We believe these three glasses were display glasses from the shop which were used both to show off Frain's ability as a glass maker but also to show what type of engraving he could undertake.

The small liqueur glass has a beautiful multi point star cut base, fluted cuttings to the base, wonderful intricate thistle engraving and has WF plus 24th August 1892 engraved on it. Its size is 2 1/4" diameter by 3 3/4" high.

The coffee can shaped handled glass also has a beautiful multi point star cut base, a much higher fluted cut base and is also beautifully engraved with thistles in the most intricate detailed manner. This glass has Eleanor. Lockhart. Frain. Born 6th June 1890 engraved on it. The glass has also been purposely made with a pronounced bend in it. It's size is 2 1/4" diameter by 3 1/4" high.

The tall beaker style glass has a plain base with fluted cutting to the base part of it. This time engraved with flowers and foliage, I'm no expert on flowers but they look like blue bells to me, again the detail is superb. This glass has William Frain 1878 engraved on it. It's size is 3 1/2" diameter by 6" high.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
