Birmingham 1920 Solid Silver and Cut Glass Conical Shaped Whisky Jug or Noggin.

Description

Birmingham 1920 English hallmarked solid silver and cut glass whisky jug with hinged lid, also called a tot or noggin, meant for serving individual portions of whisky. Made by Alexander Clark and Company, and complete with lovely hallmarked London 1906 solid silver tot label and chain made by Heath and Middleton, famous makers famous makers of the Aesthetic or Arts and Crafts period.

Originating in Scotland, and used for "go to bed" sized servings, these are most sought after pieces for collectors and whisky aficionados.

With conical shape, star cut base and curved handle, the glass body is classic and lovely, a very elegant design.

The hinged lid solid silver top has a beautifully angled thumb catch.

A great gift for the whisky drinker perhaps accompanied by their favourite bottle, sure to be appreciated in the evening in the study or drawing room. Also, a lovely piece for the collector. Undamaged and complete examples don't come along often.

Size-3.75 inches high without thumbcatch or 4.25 inches high with catch, 2.75 inches wide. 2 5/8 base diameter.

Undamaged and in very good condition.

The two available have just been sold (see last photo). However, we have sourced another one, which is waiting to be uploaded. It also has its original silver label. Please enquire for details.

Rare to find antique example.
