A strange item dating from the Victorian period and very much in the Gothic manner, it consists of a glass ogee shape pot in a wonderful green colour. the cover is in brass which originally was plated and has now worn through, it is decorated with little gothic spikes. The whole is of a very high quality when it is opened it has a cloth covered dipper attached to the lid, I can only guess at it being for dampening down a lamp etc, but I have no firm ideas. C.1880.
