Top Notch Antique English Three Bottle Tantalus in Oak & Silver Plate C.1880

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A wonderful quality Victorian Tantalus, which I have had my silversmith dismantle and re-plate all the silver fittings, now looking sensational against the warm rich Oak.

The sides are an unusual shape again with silver plated mounts, one side acting as an escutcheon and housing the working taselled key. The key when turned operates the very unusual mechanism, with the interior of the caddy falling to allow access to the three cut crystal decanters.

The three cut crystal decanters are the original, with the top two thirds cut in the ever-popular hobnail design, all topped with three multi-faceted original stoppers, all in excellent condition.

The underside of the Oak frame is mounted with a shield shaped plaque, bearing the silversmith's makers mark for BOURNE & O'NEILL of Birmingham, a partnership of Henry Bourne and Daniel J. O'Neill.

Fabulous quality and condition, the footprint measuring 14" x 6" and standing 14 3/4" tall to top of handle. Each bottle has a base measurement of 3 1/4" square x 9" tall to top of stoppers.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
