This Victorian linen press is an English country house cabinet made from mahogany and pine with a warm brown colour and a traditional pine plank back. The open front holds four graduated sliding trays with shaped sides and central divisions, set above a moulded plinth base and below a moulded top with a generous overhang. The timber shows a figured grain on the top and sides, plain panelled sides, and a mellow patina consistent with its age and use. It measures 119 cm high, 118 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, providing practical storage for everyday items. The piece fits well in a bedroom, hallway, dressing room, or study for organising linen, clothing, shoes, or files.

Originally designed in the 18th and 19th centuries, a linen press was constructed to store household linens, sheets, and folded garments flat on sliding trays before modern fitted wardrobes became widespread.

These pieces typically featured solid mahogany frames, flame mahogany veneers, dovetail jointed sliding trays, and heavy plinth bases for structural stability.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut dovetail joints on the internal sliding trays, period-correct wood shrinkage, natural surface patina, and hand-planed back panels.

This storage piece functions effectively as a dining room sideboard alternative, a hallway shoe storage unit, or an open-display pantry cabinet for folded textiles and tableware.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax once or twice a year, avoiding direct sunlight and proximity to radiator heat sources to prevent wood movement.
