A Georgian Regency period cut glass bonbonniere stands ready for display, constructed from clear lead glass with extensive strawberry diamond patterns, panel cutting, and a matching star-cut finial. The vessel comprises a rounded body beneath a tiered lid with a fluted rim, all resting on a square pedestal base featuring a lemon squeezer design. The piece measures 17.5 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. Originally designed for the Regency table to hold bonbons, sweetmeats, or preserves, this decorative item suits a sideboard top in a modern home as an elegant display piece or a container for small items.

During the Georgian and Regency eras, bonbonnieres and sweetmeat jars were luxury tableware items used to serve candied fruits and sweet confections at formal dining gatherings, reflecting the wealth and status of the host.

Regency glass vessels were predominantly made from heavy lead crystal (also known as flint glass), which allowed craftsmen to cut deep, crisp geometric patterns that maximized light refraction.

Authentic Georgian crystal typically features hand-cut diamond or slice patterns, a heavy feel due to lead content, evidence of hand-finishing, and characteristic features like moulded square lemon-squeezer pedestal bases.

A lidded glass bonbonniere can be arranged on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or dining table vignette where natural light catches the glass facets and enhances the rooms decor.

Antique cut glass should be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water using mild dish soap and a soft cloth, avoiding sudden temperature changes and dishwashers to prevent thermal shock and clouding.
