Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Carved vertical fluting to the stems: traditional cabinet maker turning.
Softened contours on the turned mouldings: natural wear from handling.
Darkened wax and polish in the recesses: years of regular cleaning.
Warm, mellow surface tone across the timber: naturally aged finish.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

FAQs

Turned wooden candlesticks gained widespread popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries, crafted using traditional wood-lathe techniques to create decorative balusters and fluted columns for domestic lighting.

Antique fluted candlesticks were commonly turned from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, which provided structural stability and allowed for crisp architectural details.

Authentic period examples typically feature subtle hand-turned variations, historical wax residue or charring around the candle nozzle, original weighted bases, and an aged timber patina.

Place a pair of turned wooden candlesticks on a dining table or sideboard to add rich timber tones and classic geometry against contemporary, neutral backgrounds.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and periodically apply a clear beeswax polish along the wood grain, ensuring molten wax is removed promptly without scraping the surface.
