Rolled sheet brass scroll brackets: hand-formed metalwork assembly.
Blown bell shades with opalescent white banding: typical Edwardian glassmaking.
Mellow darkening in the recessed brass relief: undisturbed age patina.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of wall lights dates from the Arts and Crafts period and brings an English Country House aesthetic to interior spaces. Constructed from brass with a warm golden hue and clear vaseline glass, the fixtures combine functionality with decorative metalwork. Each piece exhibits an ornate repoussé backplate detailed with elaborate foliate carving, embossed rivet motifs, and scrolled top and bottom edges. Suspended from a central arched bracket, the bell-shaped translucent glass shades diffuse a soft illumination downward. Visible components include a dark braided electrical cord, a threaded brass collar holding the shade, and intricate relief patterns along the vertical brass mounts. The dimensions for each individual fixture measure 47 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 17 cm deep. These wall lights suit installation on narrow wall spaces in hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms, providing both ambient lighting and sculptural wall decoration.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts lighting emphasises hand-crafted metalwork, visible construction techniques, and organic decorative motifs, developing as a reaction against mass industrialisation during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Wall fixtures from this era were primarily constructed using sheet or cast brass, copper, hand-hammered iron, and decorative blown glass shades such as vaseline, opalescent, or frosted glass.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of traditional manufacturing, including hand-rolled metal edges, riveted assembly, natural oxidisation within carved relief areas, and slight irregularities in hand-blown glass shades.

Mount these wall lights on either side of a hallway mirror, artwork, or fireplace alcove to deliver warm directional illumination that complements contemporary neutral interiors.

Dust the brass backplates gently using a dry microfibre cloth without harsh chemical cleaners to protect the aged patina, and wash glass shades separately in lukewarm water using mild dish soap.
