This Arts and Crafts standard lamp originates from circa 1910, made by Heals. The timber displays a rich medium brown walnut colour with a polished finish. The design incorporates a tapered octagonal column rising from a stepped hexagonal base, supported on small shaped feet, and topped with a turned brass lampholder and a dark brown fabric-covered twisted flex cord. Standing 160 cm high, this floor lamp works well placed beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa in a living room, study, or reading corner. Heals produced quality furnishings during the early twentieth century, reflecting clean lines and functional craftsmanship. The wood grain shows natural warmth across the faceted shaft and the stepped platform base. Interior lighting needs are met while adding a traditional English Country House aesthetic to domestic spaces. The electrical wiring is updated using antique double twist bronze flex, tested for modern use.

Early 20th-century standard lamps feature clean architectural lines, turned timber columns, and sturdy faceted or moulded bases reflecting the transition from Victorian revival styles to Arts and Crafts simplicity.

Standard lamps from this era were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or mahogany, featuring turned columns and heavy weighted bases fitted with brass lamp holders.

Authentic pieces frequently display makers metal or bone discs, distinctive octagonal or hexagonal bases, clean tapered columns, and high-quality cabinet-making joinery characteristic of Heal & Son production.

Position the lamp in an empty corner or beside a sofa to provide targeted reading illumination while adding warm timber tones and geometric structure to contemporary living spaces.

Dust the wooden column regularly with a dry soft cloth, apply high-grade beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, and ensure electrical wiring is inspected by a qualified electrician.
