Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian novelty silver condiment dish takes the form of a garden trug, complete with a fixed central overhead handle and four small vertical legs positioned beneath twin base bars. The sterling silver exterior holds a richly gilded interior and comes with a matching silver spoon. Clear hallmarks appear on the outer body near the rim, while the smooth metallic surfaces reflect light across the silver and gold tones. The item measures 7 cm high, 11.5 cm wide, and 6 cm deep. This miniature tableware piece brings traditional English country house character to a dining table or sideboard top. It functions practically for serving condiments during dinner parties or afternoon tea gatherings, while also serving as a conversational display piece for silver collectors. The compact scale allows easy placement within a cabinet or on a serving tray when not in use.

FAQs

An Edwardian novelty silver condiment dish is a small dining accessory produced in the early 20th century, designed in whimsical or miniature everyday forms, such as a garden trug or wheelbarrow, to hold salt, pepper, or mustard.

These dishes were predominantly crafted from solid sterling silver and frequently features a gilt or gold-washed interior, known as vermeil, which protected the silver from corrosion caused by salt and chemicals.

Authentic pieces display official British hallmarks stamped onto the exterior or base, including a lion passant for sterling quality, a town mark indicating the assay office, a date letter corresponding to the Edwardian era, and a makers mark.

This versatile piece can be displayed on a dining sideboard, used as a refined salt celler during dinner parties, or repurposed as a delicate trinket dish for small jewellery on a dressing table.

Clean gently with a soft, dry silver-polishing cloth to maintain the shine, avoiding abrasive creams or submerged washing that could wear away the thin gold gilding on the interior.
