Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Anatolian rug dates from 1870 and follows a traditional style crafted entirely from wool. The textile displays a dominant terracotta red field with central geometric medallions rendered in grey, pale yellow, and ochre, all enclosed by detailed botanical and floral border bands with stepped latch hook motifs and subtle abrash colour variation. Visible signs of age include a low pile, general wear, and historical repairs, while the ends and sides remain secure and the surface is hand washed. Measuring 156 cm high by 106 cm wide and 0.6 cm deep, the piece suits an English Country House interior as a decorative floor covering in a living room, study, or hallway. The rug works well placed directly onto timber flooring or traditional tiles to bring rich pattern and historical character to a domestic space.

FAQs

Originating from the Melas region in southwestern Anatolia, Ada Melas rugs are traditional hand-knotted textiles distinguished by geometric medallions, warm terracotta and ochre palettes, and defined border bands.

Melas rugs are hand-knotted using natural hand-spun wool for both the pile and foundation structure, coloured with vegetable dyes derived from local plants and minerals.

Authentic period pieces feature subtle colour variations known as abrash, irregular hand-knotted pile construction, flexible wool backing, and complex geometric framing.

A handwoven Anatolian rug adds warmth and tactile contrast to modern spaces when positioned on neutral timber flooring, beneath low-profile coffee tables, or alongside tailored upholstery.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only attachment without a rotating brush bar, rotate annually to ensure balanced wear, and address spills immediately by blotting with a damp cloth.
