Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Afghan Turkmen prayer rug is a hand-knotted textile produced by Turkmen weavers in northern Afghanistan, historically characterised by geometric patterns and a central arch motif representing a mihrab. These rugs were designed as portable spaces for daily prayer, incorporating distinct regional weaving techniques and traditional tribal symbols.

Traditional Turkmen rugs are constructed using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation structure. The wool yarn is dyed using natural plant and mineral pigments, which produce deep shades of red, terracotta, navy, and brown.

Authentic antique Turkmen prayer rugs feature dense asymmetrical wool knots, flexible foundations, and hand-spun wool displaying subtle colour variations known as abrash. Look for a defined niche or arched architectural form at one end of the inner field and traditional multi-banded geometric borders.

Designers frequently position compact prayer rugs in entryways, quiet reading alcoves, or alongside beds to introduce texture and warmth. They also serve as effective wall hangings or decorative layers placed over larger neutral natural-fibre carpets.

Vacuum the rug regularly without using a rotating beater bar to avoid pulling the fibres. Rotate the piece annually to ensure even wear, use a padded rug underlay to preserve the foundation structure, and clean stains immediately with clean cold water and neutral soap.
