This Victorian Chinoiserie vase stands 43 cm high, 30.5 cm wide, and 30.5 cm deep, well-suited for display on a sideboard top in a living room or hallway. The 19th-century piece combines cobalt blue porcelain with gilt bronze ormolu mounts, featuring a pierced collar, an acanthus leaf cresting, and cast claw feet. Lion mask handles with hanging rings project from the shoulders of the rounded body, which bears a glossy glaze finish. Converted to electricity and tested, the fitting includes a central vertical stem projecting from the top. The smooth surface reflects ambient light, and minor surface variations are visible across the dark ground. The combination of Asian porcelain and French Chateau style ormolu metalwork provides a decorative accent for traditional interiors.

An ormolu-mounted Chinese vase is a ceramic vessel created in China and later fitted with European gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts. This practice became prominent in 18th and 19th-century Europe, combining Eastern porcelain craftsmanship with Western decorative metalwork.

These objects typically combine high-fired hard-paste porcelain coated in monochrome or patterned glazes with cast bronze or brass mounts. The metal fittings were coated in mercury gilding or gold lacquer to achieve a durable bright finish.

Authentic 19th-century mounts display hand-chased surface details, natural wear to the gilding on raised areas, and threaded brass assembly rods underneath. The porcelain should fit precisely within the metal collars and footings without modern adhesives.

Positioning the vase as a singular focal point on a credenza, console table, or fireplace mantel creates structural contrast against neutral walls. Pair the object with understated contemporary art or modern cabinetry to balance the ornate detailing.

Dust the ceramic body and bronze fittings regularly using a soft microfibre cloth or dry soft-bristled brush. Avoid abrasive chemical polishes or water immersion, as moisture can cause oxidisation underneath the metal mounts and damage delicate gilding.
