Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Danish silver plated arts and crafts box from the 1900 period follows the "Skonvirke" movement. The rectangular container has a hinged lid with a hand-hammered finish, a chased foliate decorative border, and an oval central cartouche enclosing faux tortoiseshell. Inside the lid is gilded, the interior is wooden, and the base is covered in velvet. The outer metal body is silver plated in colour, displaying a low profile measuring 4 cm high, 8.5 cm wide, and 13 cm long. Suitable for an office desk or gentleman's library, this lidded container provides a practical desktop storage solution for small accessories. The piece stands securely on a flat surface, offering a textured metal exterior with distinct borders framing the inset panel. It functions well as a decorative desk tidy or trinket holder within a traditional workspace or study setting.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts metalwork is defined by hand-hammered surfaces, visible construction details, and organic ornamentation that emphasise artisan craftsmanship over mass industrial production.

Makers frequently utilised electroplated silver over base metals such as brass or copper, often accentuating the lids with cabochon stones, enamel panels, or glass elements.

Authentic period pieces display hand-tooled hammering, natural surface patina, makers marks or stamps on the base, and fine soldered joints typical of historic metalworking techniques.

Position small metal boxes on desk surfaces, bedside tables, or stacked atop books on a sideboard to add metallic texture and historical contrast within contemporary spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and use a gentle silver polish applied sparingly to avoid removing plating or stripping natural oxidisation from recessed textures.
